Board Member Expectations
1) Contribute to defining and/or maintaining the organization's mission and developing annual goals that align with organization's mission.
2) Carry out the functions of the office of board member and officers as stated in bylaws.
3) Focus on development of policies leaving implementation of those policies to the Executive Director. (ED)
4. Ensure financial security of the center by reviewing and approving all financial reports. Reviewing and understanding annual budget and anticipating funding. Reviewing all vouchers and payroll amounts for checks which require board signatures. Reviewing and approving all check disbursements for previous month, including federal, state and fundraiser accounts presented by ED at monthly meetings.
5) Understand and adhere to open meeting laws and executive sessions, as well as the basics of parliamentary procedures.
6) Participate in board self evaluation programs or board development workshops and other educational events that enhance board member skills, including self-directed reading.
7) At all times operate with clear understanding of what is a board member role and what is the Executive Director role. Rely on other board members to help clarify that difference if in doubt.
8) Attend board meetings held the third Monday of each month unless otherwise stated.
All new board members should read and sign the Board Service Commitment Pledge.
