Senior Center Happenings

• The Walking Club will meet at the Kemmerer Recreation Center on Monday's at 9:30 rather than 10:00.  Meet us there.  If you would like a ride to the Rec Center call for a ride by 8:30 each Monday.
• The trip to the Uinta County Museum has been moved from Tuesday October 14th to Wednesday October 15th.  Stop by the center or call to sign up.
• The GREAT PUMPKIN AUCTON will be on October 22nd @ 12:00.  Use your talent to decorate a pumpkin and drop it by the center on Monday, October 20th by 3:00.

    There are many changes that will impact Medicare and Medigap Insurances for the upcoming year. Many of you are familiar with Eric Jenkins who has served the Kemmerer area for many years. On October 8, 9, and 20th, Eric will be at the senior center for presentations regarding these changes with Q&A to follow. He will take appointments October 21-24 for individual meetings from 9:00 to 3:00. Sign up at the center.

• The trip is accessible – we had a couple of wheelchair and oxygen users last year – we use an ADA bus all through DC, in the airports etc.  
• The trip is about  a week long, a longer and slower experience than an Honor Flight
• Wish of a Lifetime through generous donors pays for everything for the veteran and their companion 
• If you have nominated someone before and they were not chosen, you do not have to nominate them again they remain on the list
• We are working through partner organizations, and our volunteers this year to solicit nominations (two years ago we put it out      on the TV and  Radio and Social Media and overwhelmed the vetting  team, delaying the trip by a year) so really, this is for you to think of  individuals you know.

If you’d like to nominate someone for a Wish who is NOT a Vietnam Veteran AND/OR in Wyoming you can go ahead and do so, they will put into the general individual Wish Pool, while this is for a group trip 

      The KSC will visit the Uinta County Museum on October 14th. The museum is free and the Kemmerer Senior Center will pay for lunch at the Evanston Senior Center following the tour.

  October 7th the KSC will travel to Evanston for a fast food lunch and a movie. The center will treat you to the movie. Lunch and snacks are your responsibility. Sign up at the center by October 6th.

Join us every Thursday at 1:00 for quilt as you go. This month we will work on a reversable table runner with Fall on one side and Christmas on the other. Contact Kami with questions.

Dementia Support Group Caregiving for those experiencing dementia can be challenging.  We have partnered with the Wyoming Dementia Care Giver Network working through the University of Wyoming.  It is their mission to help improve levels of depression, burden, self-advocacy, and empowerment regarding the care givers experience.  This Support group is free and will meet twice monthly via Zoom.  The KSC will be a site location for the program.  The next meeting will be on Wednesday, October 22nd @ 10:30.  The topic is Care Partner Support through Technology.   Everyone is welcome.  Remember we can also assist individuals with joining the meeting from the comfort of their home.  There is a bit of a process so please reach out if you would like assistance signing up.    

 Wyoming Center on Aging 

Twice a month join us in the dining room at 11:45 for some technology chatter. We will discuss our website, KMERSC.COM, our cell phones, and anything about technology that you are interested in. 

Sandy Goodman provided a lot of critical information when she visited the center on Wednesday.  Open enrollment for changes in healthcare or prescription drug coverage starts on October 15th and ends on December 7th.  If you have questions or need assistance please contact the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), 1-800-856-4398.  They can schedule an appointment with you or simply answer a question.
